Gowbarrow Fell provides some stunning views of Ullswater and is an excellent longer route to do from the car park at Aira Force. If you want to do a walk near Ullswatre and take in some of the best scenery the Lake District has to offer – then this is the route for you!

Route map of the Gowbarrow fell walk, starting from the car park at Aira Force and going clock-wise to Gowbarrow Fell. For me the best views are to be had on the return when you pass the memorial seat on Green Hill, and head back to Aira force car park. This Ullswater walk is one of the best walks in the Lake District in my humble opinion.

My personal favourite vantage point is not actually from Gowbarrow Fell summit – but on the return leg below Green Hill just after you pass the memorial seat, looking towards Glenridding and the Helvellyn range.

More people enjoying the outdoors is great - but a small minority are leaving rubbish behind. No one gets paid to clean up natural beauty spots, (I know I'm mainly preaching to the converted) but please take all your litter home and also don’t scorch the earth with fires & BBQs which takes years to recover. You'll be an absolute outdoors legend if you pick up & dispose of any rubbish you do see from others. Finally, when sharing your pics online, please also consider encouraging responsible & sustainable enjoyment of the outdoors too. We're all influencers to some extent!
