Linhope Spout waterfall walk in Northumberland

Linhope Spout is a popular waterfall walk in the Ingram Valley in Northumberland that is a perfect walk for families of all ages. Linhope Spout itself is a great little picnic spot and a good place for a bit of wild swimming too if you are into that sort of thing. We completed this walk in a big family group. the eldest was 72 and we also had 3 kids with us, the youngest being 4 and it was no problem for them.

Linhope Spout waterfall walk overview:

Walk distance: 3.2 miles there & back
Walk time: 45min – 1 hour to get to Linhope spout from Hartside.

Linhope Spout waterfall walk map route:

The shortest and quickest way to walk to Linhope Spout is shown on the above map route. The closest you can park the car is on the roadside just before you get to Hartside as the road from there to the small village of Linhope is a private road. Unless you want a much longer walk – then the easiest and quickest walk is to simply walk back the way you came. Click the button below to view the full interactive map route

If you don’t have a Phone Map App – I really recommend the one by Ordnance Survey. You can download route maps to your phone such as this one and the app will show you exactly where you are on the route even when you have no signal – so no more taking a wrong turn 🙂

Linhope Spout is in amongst the tree’s and the path will take you straight to it!
What a cracking little waterfall it is. There is plenty of grassy space around it to have a picnic too.

More people enjoying the outdoors is great - but a small minority are leaving rubbish behind. No one gets paid to clean up natural beauty spots, (I know I'm mainly preaching to the converted) but please take all your litter home and also don’t scorch the earth with fires & BBQs which takes years to recover. You'll be an absolute outdoors legend if you pick up & dispose of any rubbish you do see from others. Finally, when sharing your pics online, please also consider encouraging responsible & sustainable enjoyment of the outdoors too. We're all influencers to some extent!
