The Inn Grasmere 1769 best lake district hotels rooms pool spa bar food
Grasmere is one of the best Lake District locations to enjoy a holiday in this very special part of the world and The Inn at Grasmere is a superb place to stay with lovely rooms and facilities all at a good price.

An impartial review of The Inn at Grasmere in the beautiful Lake District

After picking Grasmere for a possible stay in the Lake District (one of my favourite areas of the Lakes), we explored the variety of accommodation options available to us in Grasmere, and there are plenty to suit various budgets!

This was a short getaway and we wouldn’t spend a great deal of time in the hotel – so we didn’t want to spend a small fortune, however we do like style & comfort with good food & drink. We eventually decided upon The Inn at Grasmere – and I’m pleased to say we weren’t disappointed and it provided the perfect hotel for our short time in Grasmere. Read on to find out about our experience of the hotel and look at some of our photos to give you an idea of wha to expect.

The Inn at Grasmere is a really nice hotel in the perfect location in the heart of Grasmere village and it has plenty of rooms, whilst not feeling like an impersonal large hotel

The Inn at Grasmere location & parking:

Here you can see the location of The Inn at Grasmere – which is smack bang in the middle of Grasmere village – so everything was a very short walk away – ideal when you don’t want to drive the car. The hotel also offered free parking right out the front of the Hotel – which was a very welcome bonus as free parking in Grasmere for visitors is non-existent (Although there are large pay and display car parks a 5/10 minute walk away from the hotel).

The Inn at Grasmere, swimming pool & sauna facilities:

We wanted a nice and chilled short-break and hoped to get get a hotel with a pool to enjoy a morning swim. There isn’t many hotels in the Lake District with a pool – but The Inn at Grasmere has a really nice pool that is bright with the large windows, and there’s also a large sauna and small gym. We definitely weren’t here to use a gym but the pool & sauna was perfect to ease those weary legs after a day’s walking on the Lakeland Fells. On our visit Covid restrictions where in place so we just pre-booked a time slot for the pool. I didn’t mind this actually as it meant we pretty much had the pool to ourselves. The changing rooms are above the pool (along with the sauna) with a short walk down some private stairs. You do get complimentary towels and you may want to bring some flip-flops to the changing room with you whilst you walk down to the pool.

The Inn at Grasmere, food & drink in the bar:

There is a cosy bar, restaurant and well decorated sitting room at The Inn at Grasmere. We enjoyed drinks on the evenings of our stay in the bar and really enjoyed the food on offer. The service in the bar and restaurant was really good and we actually found all the staff in The Inn at Grasmere very attentive and helpful – we couldn’t fault them to be honest and it’s a big plus about the hotel.

The Inn at Grasmere, our room:

We stayed in a double-room and found it cosy, spacious and tastefully decoratored in a contemporary homely style. It had a comfortable double-bed, dressing table, complete with a kettle/tea/coffee and a hairdryer and telephone. It really did contribute to a nice relaxing break.

The bathroom was compact, but nice and clean and bright with the shower in the bath and complimentary toiletries. The shower was modern with 2 washing options – the overhead rainfall shower or handheld option.

How’s that for a room with a view! In picture is Helm Crag and we actually walked there on our trip so it was good to actually be able to see it on our stay.

The best Lake District walks near The Inn at Grasmere

Grasmere is one of Lakelands best destinations, it’s why we visited the area and its not hard to understand why Wordsworth made the village his home. We love the walks you can do around Grasmere, straight from the village if you wish, and here’s 2 of my favourite must-do walks in the Grasmere area if you are looking for an excuse to visit this wonderful part of the world 🙂
The distinctive summit of Helm Crag can be seen from Grasmere. Whilst you’ll get a sweat on walking up to the summit, it can be a relatively short walk of under 2 hours – perfect when you don’t have much time. Click here to read the full blog post on this walk

This is a superb, must-do walk around Grasmere lake itself, which takes in Loughrigg Terrace where you get the best view of Grasmere. You’ll also pass Dove Cottage where Wordsworth himself once lived. Click here to read the full blog post.

I hope you have found this blog post useful in planning a trip and it inspires you to visit the Lake District – my favourite part of the world 🙂

I only share reviews of places that I really enjoyed staying at and would recommend to others. If you know of any other places that are nice to stay at – please share as I’m always on the look out for new hotels & B&B’s to visit in the Lake District.

I hope this website helps you plan some good outdoors adventure! I'm probs preaching to the converted - but please respect the outdoors and don't trash it. By being in nature I think it makes us appreciate the natural world more and want to look after it. We’ve only got one planet on which we all depend on - and if we each do a little bit, added together it changes the world.
