Seal holiday cottage in Hexham – what a lovely place to stay in Northumberland that is close to Hadrian’s Wall

A perfect holiday rental cottage in Hexham, Northumberland with Wooden Star Cottages

We try and have little mini-breaks as much as time (and money 🙂 allows and we’re always on the lookout for a variety of good places to stay (and revisit in the future) and this holiday cottage is certainly a place we would come back too. There’s perhaps nothing more comfortable for a family (or friends) vacation than your own holiday cottage and this particular cottage, called Seal Cottage in Hexham, Northumberland was a lovely place to stay for a long weekend and a great base to explore the surrounding Northumbrian area (which for us entailed a walk along Hadrian’s Wall)

Seal Cottage itself is owned by Wooden Star Cottages and is a stunning double-fronted stone cottage dating back to 1880. We loved how homely it felt, with it’s tasteful modern decor and plenty of space for the 4 of us. The cottage does actually sleep 5 (two double-rooms, one single) so our eldest daughter was lucky enough to bag her own double room. Read on to learn more about our holiday at this Hexham Cottage.

Seal Cottage is a double-fronted stone cottage with lots of charm. There isn’t a road in front of the cottage so it’s tucked away in a quiet location

Seal Cottage is part of the family of Northumberland holiday cottages owned by Wooden Star Cottages and it’s the second of their cottages we’ve stayed in – we like them that much 🙂

On arrival we where greeted with spring flowers and a bag of locally produced Northumberland goodies by Whickham Cottage Crafts – a great start to the holiday

The living room is homely and has a modern cottage style – very comfy. The TV is equipped with a smart TV, Netflix ready and all the Free Sat channels you’ll need (as well as WiFi access). The fireplace is electric but blasts out plenty of heat if needed – we didn’t feel the need to use it as the central heating kept the place nice and toasty.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the kitchen utensils and pots/pans you’ll need , with an oven/hob, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher too if needed and the dining table is located here. Theres also a downstairs toilet off from the kitchen. We liked the recycling bins too!

The bathroom is again nicely finished and that big bath is great for a soak after a long day walking

You’ll find lots of nice touches and framed art all around the cottage to give it that homely feel.

All in all we absolutely loved this cottage and if every cottage we stayed at had the same quality then we’d be very happy. I don’t leave a review of everywhere we stay on this blog – but if I would recommend it to friends than I will leave a review on here. I guess the only slight negative about the place is that you can’t leave your car right next to the cottage as it is in effect down a pathway. However that could be a blessing as you won’t hear any traffic in your stay at all!

I hope you found that review useful for Seal Cottage and if you are planning a cottage holiday stay in Hexham or around this way to explore Northumberland – then I would really recommend this place. You can find out more here www.woodenstarcottages.co.uk/seal-cottage/

Happy holidaying!

More people enjoying the outdoors is great - but a small minority are leaving rubbish behind. No one gets paid to clean up natural beauty spots, (I know I'm mainly preaching to the converted) but please take all your litter home and also don’t scorch the earth with fires & BBQs which takes years to recover. You'll be an absolute outdoors legend if you pick up & dispose of any rubbish you do see from others. Finally, when sharing your pics online, please also consider encouraging responsible & sustainable enjoyment of the outdoors too. We're all influencers to some extent!
