Wild swimming at Wain With Force – what a spot! In terms of location, view and accessibility – it has to be one of the best wild swimming locations in Yorkshire!

Wild swimming at Wain Wath Force in Yorkshire

Wain Wath Force is a beautiful waterfall in Upper Swaledale near the small traditional Yorkshire Dales village of Keld (which isn’t much of a drive from the Lake District too if you are in that area).

Wain Wath Force is an idyllic spot for a wild swim with amazing unspoilt natural views – and it’s quite accessible as a minor road runs right near it where you can park the car and it takes literally 30 seconds to get down to the stoney shore. Being in Upper Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales – its never that busy except in summer school holidays on hot days. It’s quite a deep patch of water for a good swim about and I have seen people jumping off the waterfalls themselves. I would go so far to say that it’s my favourite place in Yorkshire Dales for a wild swim 🙂

The red pin shows where Wain Wath Force is on the River Swale – a short distance from the village of Keld in Upper Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales. You can park the car right next to the waterfalls on the B6270 road, although space is limited – so please be considerate of other road users when parking up

WILD SWIMMING AT KIDSON FORCE IN KELD

If you are into your wild swimming and in the Keld area – another spot worth checking out is at Kidson Force – about 30 mins walk from Keld downsteam of the River Swale.

Here you can see the waterfalls at Kidson Force (Upper & Lower Falls) The water below the Upper Falls is often calm and ideal for a more relaxing swim – but of you fancy the thrill of jumping in – then the rocky cliffs around lower Kidosn Force are ideal – just make sure there are no hiden obstacles in the water.

Below you will find details of a must-do walk which will take in all the best waterfalls and wild swim spots around Keld

More people enjoying the outdoors is great - but a small minority are leaving rubbish behind. No one gets paid to clean up natural beauty spots, so please take all your litter home (and don’t scorch the earth with fires & BBQs which takes years to recover). You'll be an absolute outdoors legend if you pick up & dispose of any rubbish you do see from others. Finally, when sharing your adventures online, please encourage responsible & sustainable enjoyment of the outdoors too. We're all influencers to some extent!
