Did you know the air by the sea contains something called negative ions, in greater quantity than in more urban environments and indoors?

Negative Ions are molecules that have gained or lost an electrical charge. They are created in nature as air molecules break apart due to sunlight, radiation and moving air and water, such as the crashing waves of the sea, powerful waterfalls and thunderstorms.

Negative ions purify the air – and when we breathe them in and they reach our bloodstream, negative ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping to boost our mood, alleviate depression, relieve stress, and increase our daytime energy.

Negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy.

That’s one of the reasons a walk by the sea feels so good 👌

However in contrast to Negative Ions – we have positive ions in the environment. These are linked to headache, lethargy, eye strain – and are found more around our electrical devices and rooms.
