Bamburgh Castle Walk: Lot’s of options for a stunning Coastal Stroll in Northumberland
If you’re after a cracking coastal walk with a bit of history thrown in, you can’t do much better than a Bamburgh Castle walk. Sitting proudly on the Northumberland coastline, Bamburgh Castle is an absolute stunner, perched up on its rocky throne overlooking the North Sea. Whether you’re after a short stroll or a longer hike, there’s plenty to see and do along the way, and trust me, you’ll be stopping every five minutes just to take in the views.
The best routes start in Bamburgh village, a charming little spot with cosy pubs and tearooms (because every good walk deserves a reward). For a short walk, just head down to the beach and have a mooch about and an explore and just go with the flow – you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the castle towering above the dunes. The golden sands stretch for miles, so whether you fancy a gentle amble or a proper trek, you’ve got options along the beach and can’t get lost really!
If history’s your thing, you’ll love wandering the castle grounds too—Bamburgh has seen everything from Viking raids to royal battles over the centuries. You can even pop inside for a look at its grand halls and medieval armoury.
My recommended longer Bamburgh Castle walk
For those up for a bit more adventure, you can extend your Bamburgh Castle walk by heading out of Bamburgh Village north towards Budle Bay. This quieter part of the coast is brilliant for spotting wildlife, especially birds, and the views back towards the castle on the return leg are something else. I have a dedicated blog post on this particular Bamburgh Castle walk on the banner image link below – which gives a lot more detail.
No matter how far you go, a Bamburgh Castle walk is really special – I[m from the North-East and I do it time and again. The mix of wild coastal scenery, rolling dunes, and that iconic Bamburgh Castle looming above makes it one of the best walks in Northumberland. So, lace up your boots, grab a flask of tea, and get yourself out there. A Bamburgh Castle walk is one you won’t forget in a hurry!
