A stunning cliff tops walk on the Scotish borders coastline at St. Abb’s Head, near Eyemouth

I’d had this place on my list for a while to visit, after seeing a superb image that I found out to be of Pettico Wick Bay and a recent trip to see family in Berwick-upon-Tweed gave the perfect opportunity. It doesn’t take long upon passing he England-Scotland Border to get here and it’s an excellent section of dramatic coastline which all forms a national Nature Reserve.

This particular walk is relatively short at 3.3 miles with some great views along the way along the cliff tops.

Pettico Wick Bay Scotland

The view above at Pettico Wick Bay has to be a highlight on this superb walk – the coastal view is very dramatic and one of my favourite costal views in the region.

MAP ROUTE OF THIS ST.ABBS HEAD WALK:

Here’s the full map route of this a great walk, which starts from the St. Abb’s vistor centre car park where you will find a cafe, toilets and a lovely little pottery shop. It’s costs around £4 to park all day. You can go clock-wise or anti-clockwise, and on this occasion  I went in a clockwise direction – which is on a private quiet narrow road all the way until Pettico Wick Bay (my favourite viewpoint) and then the lighthouse. From the lighthouse it’s on a footpath south with great views of St.Abb’s.

OS Maps - my Recommended App

I've tried a few map apps on my phone and settled on OS Maps, to access detailed UK Mapping. You can plan, save and download mapo routes, such as those on this site, direct to your phone, and then see where you are exactly on any route even when you have no signal - so you can't get lost! It's helped me discover loads of new walking routes too and you can get a free 2 week trial via the button below.

PHOTOS OF WHAT TO EXPECT ON THIS WALK:

Fine views at Pettico Wick Bay – complete with it’s own small white sandy beach. The water here is really clear and divers frequent the spot to see a nearby ship wreck and visit the kelp forest which can attract dolphins!

More people enjoying the outdoors is great - but a small minority are leaving rubbish behind. No one gets paid to clean up natural beauty spots, (I know I'm mainly preaching to the converted) but please take all your litter home and also don’t scorch the earth with fires & BBQs which takes years to recover. You'll be an absolute outdoors legend if you pick up & dispose of any rubbish you do see from others. Finally, when sharing your pics online, please also consider encouraging responsible & sustainable enjoyment of the outdoors too. We're all influencers to some extent!
