ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PLACES IN THE NORTH YORK MOORS TO SEE THE HEATHER IN BLOOM
In late summer at the back end of August into September the heather in the North York Moorscblooms with masses of pink carpet everywhere. One of my favourite places to witness and photograph this is at the Lone Tree near Egton Bridge.
It’s quite easy to drive close to this elevated isolated point where there is not much around for miles. It’s been a while since I visited so I thought I would pay a visit one late summer evening (after a walk at Egton Bridge), and take some pics (which you can see below). I also thought I would share some location details that other photogarophers amongst you might find useful. It’s best to visit in late August/September – but this spot would be quite photogenic whatever the season and the dark skies around here would make for some nice astrophotography too!

WHERE IS THE LONE TREE?
The lone tree is located a 10 min drive from Egton Bridge along single track, yet quiet roads. You’ll want to head for the Wheeldale Stone and park right near it. It’s then a short walk to the Tree.

I’ve circled above where the parking spot is near the Wheeldale Stone, which is a short drive from Egton Bridge or Grosmont.
The below drone shot shows where exactly you can park, with a little pull in where the red car is – or space for a couple of cars where the 2 minor roads meet. It’s very quiet up here and you won’t pass many cars.

The best way to walk up close to the tree is to follow the track from where the red car is pictured above – and shown from eye level below. You’ll get the best angle of the tree from this perspective also and the sun will set behind it from here!

I hope this blog post sheds some light on this excellent location and helps you see, and photograph this spot for yourself!
